This year Kerry was a finalist in the Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture. Her bronze sculpture Pensive was exhibited at Juniper Hall, Paddington. In October this year Kerry’s bronze Alone will be exhibited at Sculptures in the Gardens at the Roseby Vineyard, Mudgee.
Kerry’s artistic career began in 1968 when aged 18 she was one of four finalists in the NSW Travelling Art Scholarship. The portfolios of artworks by the finalists were exhibited at AGNSW. Kerry studied fine art at the Julian Ashton Art School in the early 1970s, but feels she gained more from her mentor the late John Ogburn who introduced her to modern art and the ideas of Carl Jung. She agrees with Jung that dreams and works of art are the road to the unconscious mind. All her artworks express her unconscious concerns at the time of completion. Kerry has only one criterion for a work of art: that it expresses an emotion. Her figurative sculptures emphasise body language to express emotion. Kerry is influenced by the work of Camille Claudel who sculptured nudes to convey raw emotion. When working in Ogburn’s studio at The Rocks, Kerry regularly exhibited at the Harrington Street Gallery. Her later exhibitions have been at the Breamar Gallery, Springwood and the Margo Hardy Gallery at the Western Sydney Uni. Kerry’s style is linear, sensuous and organic. |
