In 1871, Mr Arthur Budden of Rockley petitioned the Wesleyan Quarterly Meeting of the Bathurst Circuit to urge the appointment of a third Minister to the circuit. Mr Budden expressed concern that the infrequent Ministerial attention provided to Rockley left the residents without any means of grace and offered this petition as a step to lessen the evil. He offered the sum of £40 per annum for the term of 3 years if the Minister resided in Rockey. In 1871, the Rev. Joseph Monahan was appointed the third Minister of the circuit to reside in Rockley. The Parsonage was built in 1872 to accommodate the Rev. Monahan who was instituted as the Superintendent.
Dave and Sandy bought the Parsonage in 2019 and have slowly pushed back some of the weeds to uncover an old garden and an abundance of treasures. This is a huge and exciting work in progress and we invite you to view the garden at the very beginning of the transformation and then to return each year to the Rockley Gardens and Art Festival to check on the progress. |
